The residency provides one artist with the time, space, financial support, and community connections needed to develop a new body of work within Norse Art Space’s studio just south of downtown Sioux Falls.
The inaugural residency will begin Tuesday, June 1, and conclude Thursday, July 1, 2027, with a public exhibition and evening reception featuring work created during the residency.
About the Residency
The Norse Art Space Artist Residency gives an artist one of the most valuable resources they can receive: uninterrupted time to create.
Throughout the month, the selected artist will have access to a dedicated studio environment while becoming an active participant in Sioux Falls’ growing cultural community. The program is designed to support artistic experimentation, professional development, and meaningful relationships among artists, audiences, collectors, and cultural organizations.
The residency culminates in a public exhibition and reception at Norse Art Space, giving visitors an opportunity to experience the resulting work and engage directly with the artist.

Why the Residency Matters
South Dakota is home to exceptional artists, yet opportunities offering dedicated time, workspace, financial support, and sustained community engagement remain limited.
To our knowledge, the Norse Art Space Artist Residency will be the only dedicated artist residency program of its kind in Sioux Falls. It fills an important gap in the city’s cultural infrastructure by creating a space where artists can step away from their everyday routines, focus deeply on their practices, develop ambitious new work, and connect with a broader community.
We believe that supporting artists strengthens the cultural life of the places they call home—and that South Dakota artists should have access to meaningful opportunities without needing to leave the state to find them.
Support the Residency
The Norse Art Space Artist Residency is made possible through the generosity of individuals and organizations that believe in investing directly in artists.
Contributions help provide the resident artist with a stipend, lodging, studio resources, community programming, professional documentation, and a culminating public exhibition. In-kind support—including lodging, meals, transportation, materials, framing, printing, and photography—is also welcomed.
By supporting the inaugural residency, you become a founding partner in a program designed to benefit artists and strengthen South Dakota’s contemporary arts community for years to come.
