About Norse Art Space
Located in Sioux Falls, Norse Art Space is the state’s only dedicated contemporary-art gallery. Established in 2024 by artists-educators Joe Schaeffer and Cody Henrichs, the gallery fills a distinctive gap in South Dakota’s art ecosystem—bringing museum-calibre exhibitions, mid-level collecting opportunities, and serious contemporary discourse to the region. We believe that meaningful contemporary art belongs in everyday lives—not just institutional collections, but personal collections, homes, offices, and communities. Our mission: to spotlight artists making significant contributions in the Midwest, to frame their work with rigorous curatorial and educational context, and to open the door for collectors who may not yet know how to engage with contemporary art.
-
Curatorial Intent. Each quarterly exhibition is envisioned and presented with the same consideration you’d expect from a major city gallery—one that explores material, idea, and context with discipline and clarity.
Accessibility. Though we operate by appointment, we invest in building longer-term engagement: downloadable catalogues, collector-focused education, and an on-ramp for first-time buyers.
Regional Relevance. Based in Sioux Falls, we leverage our local roots to serve the upper Midwest—responding to the unique mix of wealth, artistic ambition, and art-market gap found here.

Joe Schaeffer is a graphic designer, artist, and educator. A native of Sioux Falls, Joe serves as Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at the University of Sioux Falls. In his studio work, he explores intersections of abstraction and structure, design and fine art, and questions how visual language mediates commerce, memory, and form.
Cody Henrichs brings deep institutional and curatorial experience, with a Master’s in Sculpture from Rhode Island School of Design and former head-curator of the Washington Pavilion Visual Arts Center. Cody serves as museum-adjacent educator and co-curator of Norse, shaping exhibitions that are simultaneously rigorous and region-aware.

South Dakota is rich in resources—but has long lacked a contemporary gallery of this kind. By offering high-level exhibitions, curator-driven narratives, and accessible entry-points for collectors, Norse Art Space is committed to growing the collector base, advancing contemporary art literacy, and placing the Upper Midwest on the map for art-market growth. As one local business article noted: “Everything we do is of museum calibre while in direct representation for promotion of the artist.” - SiouxFalls.Business
